Quadro invented the conical mill in 1976, and the Comil has since become a standard for gentle, low-heat size reduction and deagglomeration in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Based in Waterloo, Canada, Quadro builds conical milling equipment from laboratory through production scale. Conical milling can generate less heat and fewer fines than high-speed impact milling, depending on the material, tooling, and operating conditions, which is why it is often considered for heat-sensitive or shear-sensitive products.

Quadro Comil U10
The Comil U10 in the Techceuticals lab is a laboratory conical mill used for deagglomeration,
sizing, and granule conditioning. Trainees work through screen aperture and impeller selection,
learn how tip speed and screen geometry interact to control particle size, and compare conical
milling directly against hammer milling on the same granule. Running the Comil and the Fitzmill
side by side is one of the clearest ways to show that mill selection is a formulation decision
and not just an equipment one.
